Went to Crested Butte last weekend to see some friends. The drive there is amazing as you can see from the pics. In the summer you can take Cottonwood Pass to save around 40miles on the trip, very curvy road with awesome views. We went to a local lake nearby one day, did a little kayaking. Also camped south of the area near Gunnison by another lake.
I stopped a lot on the way, doing small hikes. The one is near collegiate peaks, about 12k ft.
